On Sunday morning, reports started flooding in on a storm brewing over the San Antonio area. A warning was issued by the National Weather Service for residents to expect some severe weather conditions. Residents were told to expect some rain, large hail, and wind gusts reaching speeds of around 60mph. The National Weather Service warned of an EF-2 tornado that could touch down should the storm strengthen. Potential fires breaking out were also a cause for concern in the areas of Kerrville and Dilley, and subsequently, a Red Flag Warning was issued for these areas.
The storm ultimately made landfall late Monday afternoon, delivering hail the size of golfballs to the city of New Braunfels. Tornadoes touched down in several towns and cities between San Antonio and Austin, including Jarrell, Caldwell County, Williamson County, Taylor, Manor, Barlett, and Round Rock. Once the tornadoes left these areas, especially in Round Rock, extensive damage and debris were left behind.
IMPORTANT: While hail is the primary risk at the moment (2-3″ at times), the risk for tornadoes is increasing. Please pay very close attention to warning information and be prepared to take shelter!
