6 Common Causes of Roof Leaks

A roof leak can be a huge headache for any homeowner. Damaged Flashing

Another common cause of roof leaks is damaged flashing. Flashing is the thin piece of metal that goes around chimneys, vents, and other protrusions on your roof to provide a waterproof barrier. Over time, this flashing can become corroded or cracked due to exposure to weather elements such as rain and snow. This can lead to large pools of standing water on your roof which will eventually seep into your home through any gaps or openings in the shingles and other materials. To prevent ice dams from occurring, make sure you have proper insulation in your attic as well as a working gutter system that can drain away excess moisture.
