copper roof

When it comes to metal roofing, copper is one of the most unique materials. Its brilliant color makes it stand out, and it’s among the more splendid options in metal roofing. Copper roofing is bold and brilliant, and it’s chosen in residential settings because of the special aesthetics it provides.

A copper roof gives you curb appeal and excellent resale value. Just like other metal roofing, copper roofing is recyclable. However, it’s worth almost as much as you paid for it if you were to strip it off and resell it, meaning you’ll never lose your investment, even if you decide to change your roofing solution later.

Rhino Roofers offers a variety of metal roof types from standing seam, corrugated, and aluminum to steel roofs.

What is Copper?

Copper is a shiny, reddish-brown metal. It’s an element on the periodic table and is found naturally on the earth. One of the most appealing things about metal roofing is its recyclable properties and the fact that it’s replenishable, sustainable, and eco-friendly.

Copper is soft and highly malleable, like many other metal roofing types. It can be shaped into any design you want, so when using it on a roof, it can be made to look like brick, tile, shingles, and much more.

Copper is known for its beauty and its strength, so it’s no wonder it makes a wonderful roofing material. It has high thermal conductivity, so like aluminum, it can keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Types of Copper Roofing

While copper roofing looks great on any building and can be molded into any design you want, there aren’t many types of copper roofing, and each one has its own intended purpose.

Continuous copper roofing is manufactured and cut precisely for the job. It’s installed without joints, seams, or other breaks. It’s the most expensive option because it involves the most time and effort to manufacture to exact specifications and install.

Copper panels are cut in standard widths and installed with joints and seams. Sometimes the seams are crimped together, and other times they’re welded together during installation. It’s less expensive than continuous copper roofing and best used in a Rhino Roofers setting.

Copper shingles are low in cost and can be installed like other shingles. They’re secured in place with fasteners to prevent a reaction during contact with other metals. They’re elegant and stately and look great on any home.

Advantages of a Copper Roof

One of the primary benefits of using copper as a roofing material is its curb appeal. Its bright copper color shines brilliantly from afar, making your home stand out. It increases your home’s resale value and assures new buyers that they are getting a sturdy roof.

Copper is very strong and durable. It can withstand the strongest hail and wind and is resistant to mildew. Copper roofing will last for fifty years or more if you inspect it regularly and strive to maintain it.

Copper roofing is very lightweight, so it minimizes the stress you put on your home’s frame, which is critically important during heavy snowfall as we see in San Antonio some winters. The lightweight composition of copper roofing also makes it cheaper to install.

Copper has natural anti-microbial qualities that prevent it from growing algae, bacteria, mold, and other fungi. It’s also fire-proof, which is another significant advantage to all types of metal roofing.

Copper Roof Cost

Copper roofing tends to be one of the more costly options when looking at metal roofing. Metal roofing costs more upfront to purchase and install than traditional asphalt shingles, but it lasts a long time.

However, copper increases the value of your home and will last for a long time. One of the excellent benefits of copper roofing is that the copper itself never really loses its value. From 2009 to 2021, copper has nearly doubled in price, showing how well this metal appreciates.

Roofing prices always vary by location so you can contact a copper roofing company for more information about copper roof installation/replacement and get a free inspection for copper roof service.

Copper Roof Maintenance

Maintenance is low for a copper roof. You may choose to clean it now and then, but you rarely need to do much. Scrubbing or putting too much pressure on the copper can damage its natural shine and patina.

If you choose to do more than hose it down, you can use a natural citrus cleaner and a soft brush to preserve the shine without damaging your roof. This will keep it looking new, but it’s not necessary.

I just had my roof replaced by Rhino Roofers and I am beyond happy with the job they did! I had a leak in my roof that caused my ceiling to collapse, and their professionalism and hard work helped me through this massive home repair. Matt Lawson came and inspected my roof and gave me great recommendations, and he remained in touch with me throughout the entire replacement process, answering my text messages at all hours for all my questions and concerns. His availability and professionalism made this big project much less stressful, and I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate him and the whole team. I would recommend Rhino Roofers to anyone!

We have been remodeling our entire house, and if you are doing the same, you know how difficult it is to work with contractors. You don't know what you're getting, some technicians don't have the best social skills, and you're always worried that they're telling you some gobbledygook to get you to spend more money. Of all the different renovations we've done--plumbing, electric, etc.--we have never felt in safer hands than with Rhino Roofers. The turnaround time was quick. Once we settled on a roof color and style (there are many) we had a 1.5 week lead time before they were going to come and install the roof. On roofing day, the crew was at the house at a prompt 7AM. The men worked like a NASCAR pit crew and had tarps out to catch all the asphalt crumbling off of our old roof. I have never seen roofers do this before but it was much appreciated to keep asphalt out of our grass and sidewalk. The old roof was off by noon and the new roof was on by 3PM. They didn't even take a full day to do this job!The roof looks perfect. Not a shingle looks out of place. There is an attention to detail that makes our roof satisfying to look at every time I pull into the driveway. We are in love with our new roof and the ease of this process. I highly recommend Rhino Roofers to anyone!

Came out same day and throughly inspected my roof. Mr. Holland was a true pro and made the process of understanding insurance claims easy for me to understand. Most importantly he understood the business and made me confident in his product. They are highly rated for a reason and I can back that. And although this has no effect on my rating, they do have some sharp looking work trucks! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brandon came out a few times, even being way out in Hondo and quite the drive for him. He inspected my roof, came out with the first insurance adjuster (the adjuster was super unprofessional but Brandon remained cool and calm and professional the whole time). Brandon fought my insurance company for me and got a new adjuster to come out for another inspection and got the full roof replacement he knew I needed. He is super knowledgeable and professional. He’s kept me in the loop with the whole process and has made sure I’m happy with the results. They always upgrade your shingles to a better product. I never felt deceived and they’re very upfront about what all you’re getting. I highly recommend Rhino Roofers!

Jonah and Gus from Rhino Roofers are the best!! They worked with our insurance company and we were able to apply for financing through them for 0% the first year to make up the difference of our deductible. This massive roof was started and completed in just 9 hours. They added a much better shingle and also a mold resistant backing paper. They also added an upgraded ridge vent for ventilation and drip edge that we didn’t have. Crew was extremely professional and very clean! All the nails and old shingles were cleaned up and double checked in grass and driveway.I highly recommend you call and ask for Jonah or Gus!
